Webinar: Urban Data Platforms (UDP) and
Urban Digital Twins (UDT)

Shaping the cities and regions of tomorrow

Digital transformation is shaping the cities and regions of the future. Technologies such as urban data platforms (UDP) and urban digital twins (UDZ) offer new opportunities to increase efficiency, sustainability, and quality of life in urban areas. But what exactly do these terms mean, and how can local authorities and businesses benefit from them?

Information and details about the webinar

In this webinar, you will learn everything about urban data platforms (UDP), their advantages, and specific application examples such as smart parking. You will learn how urban digital twins (UDZ) are used as a bridge between the digital and real worlds to enable simulations and learning processes without making physical changes, with examples from cities such as Wuppertal and Kaiserslautern. Using practical projects such as the development of a climate-neutral neighborhood (EnStadt: Pfaff) and the digital twin of Wuppertal, we will show how these technologies promote urban development. In addition, regional projects such as Dorf Funk offer valuable insights for rural areas. Other topics include the importance of citizen participation, cross-departmental collaboration, and the role of data sovereignty and competence for successful smart city projects.

Content of the webinar

  • Urban data platforms (UDP): What are they, and do I need one? We provide a definition of the term, show specific examples of applications such as smart parking, and explain the advantages of a UDP.
  • Urban digital twins (UDT): Learn how UDTs can be used as a link between the digital and real worlds to enable simulations and learning processes without making physical changes. Examples from cities such as Wuppertal and Kaiserslautern demonstrate the added value of these technologies.
  • Practical examples: Using real-world projects, such as the development of a climate-neutral neighborhood (EnStadt: Pfaff) or the digital twin at the city level (Wuppertal), we show how these technologies support urban development. Regional projects, such as Dorf Funk, also offer valuable insights for rural areas.
  • Citizen participation: How municipalities discover new use cases by involving citizens.
  • Cross-departmental collaboration: Why digital technologies promote closer collaboration between different municipal departments.
  • Data sovereignty and data literacy: How municipalities develop an awareness of the central role of data and why this is essential for smart city projects.
