Digital Ecosystems and Platforms - About Will, Courage and Skill

Digital ecosystems and platform economy have been on everyone's lips ever since companies like AirBnB or Uber drastically reshaped entire economic domains in a fairly short time. German and European companies - even those that do not currently feel like software companies - need to consider how they want to position themselves.

In the meantime, there are also more and more established companies and startups in Germany that want to seize the opportunities of establishing a digital ecosystem. But just wanting to do so is not enough, of course: It also takes a fair amount of courage, because while it is a very exciting and promising endeavor, it is also a risky one that involves many uncertainties and typically requires a lot of patience and time. Finally, many new skills are also needed to create the successful establishment of a Digital Ecosystem.

Designing Digital Ecosystems and Platforms

Digital Ecosystems and platforms are complex constructs and difficult to keep track of. Technological, business, and legal implications and incomparably more difficult to understand for multi-sides markets when products and services are designed across companies and industries. Many companies lack a view of the big picture, making decisions difficult. The presentation describes the method "Tangible Ecosystem Design", for the definition, design, and analysis of Digital Ecosystems with the help of Playmobil® toys and thus makes the ecosystem "tangible".

Participants will learn how to counteract major risks of Digital Ecosystems with simple techniques, especially by enabling a view of the big picture, as well as visualizing the rough business, technical and legal interrelationships and thus making them comprehensible.
