BaSys 4.2 –
The successful Industrie 4.0 project enters the next round

With BaSys 4.2, the success story of the Industrie 4.0 project BaSys 4.0 continues. In the project BaSys 4.2, Fraunhofer IESE will perform research on the continuous engineering of manufacturing processes and Industrie 4.0 for the process industry, together with 19 partners from research and industry. The results will be incorporated as components into the BaSys middleware. Continuous engineering enables changeable manufacturing with regard to the manufactured product, the manufacturing resources, and the manufacturing process. The downtimes of a system are optimized so that, ideally, continuous manufacturing with lot size 1 is possible. In order to achieve this, BaSys 4.2 will focus on:

  • Edge Computing, to make decisions close to devices
  • Model-based capability descriptions
  • Virtualization of production

Funding

The project BaSys 4.2 started on 1 July 2019 and will be funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with 11,3 million euros for the next three years.
