Fraunhofer IESE Encourages Young Talents

Press Release / 1.9.2010

The Fraunhofer Institute for Experimental Software Engineering (IESE) invites high school students with an interest in technology to come to Kaiserslautern and take part in the Talent School to be held from 18 to 20 October 2010. The Talent School is a program for high school students from ninth to thirteenth grade. With it, Fraunhofer IESE offers particularly talented young people the unique opportunity to immerse themselves in a research area at Fraunhofer during a three-day intensive course during fall vacation.

Talentschool 2010

Together with experienced researchers, the participants will embark on a journey of discovery.
Two workshops will main focus on acquiring knowledge and experiencing research and development hands-on. In the workshop “How to create your own iPhone app”, the young people will get an insight into the product development process: from identifying the problem and having an idea for a solution to implementation and testing. The workshop “Programming made easy” will show how to develop a robot control system with the help of a modeling language. This control system will subsequently be transferred to a mobile robot, which must then navigate through a maze. No programming skills are expected, since everything required for successful implementation will be dealt with during the Talent School. An exciting program will ensure that nobody will get bored outside the workshops.

The registration deadline for the Talent School is 10 September 2010.

Since 2007, the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft has been supporting and encouraging the technical and scientific interests of high school students through its national initiative Fraunhofer Talent School. By offering young people an intensive look at the everyday work of scientists, the program hopes to get them interested in science and technology as well as in future-oriented job areas.
