BaSys 4.0

With BaSys 4.0, Fraunhofer IESE and its cooperation partners are developing an open-source middleware that enables the use of heterogenous systems for industrie 4.0.

BaSys 4.0 – Making Industrie 4.0 easy

BaSys 4.0 for Industrie 4.0

In the open-source middleware BaSys 4.0, the administrative shell serves as the central communication interface.

The aim of BaSys 4.0 is the development of a basic system for production plants that realizes the efficient changeability of a manufacturing process as a central challenge [NS1] of the Fourth Industrial Revolution. Existing technologies must be networked and integrated in such a way that Industrie 4.0 applications can be implemented. For this purpose, the project is developing a virtual middleware [NS2] that permits providing the required services and interconnecting them with each other.

Funding and Project Sponsor

On 1 July 2016, the project “Basic System Industrie 4.0” (BaSys 4.0) was launched. It is being funded by the German Federal Ministry of Education and Research (BMBF) with 12 million euros and has a duration of three years.
