Software Engineering in Sound and Vision
One picture says more than a thousand words - and one film says more than a thousand pictures! We are providing a collection of several documentary and information films covering a wide range of topics from general software engineering information via our worldwide activities to our individual work areas and research foci. In order to ensure that films can be shown without any problems, we are providing some technical information

Software Engineering

Curious about what "Software Engineering" really is? Then watch our documentary film "Software Engineering - An Engineering Discipline of the Future" and learn more about the concept and development of software-based systems, which dominate everybody's life.
Assisted Living

We are getting older and older. This development is predictable and can be scientifically proven. Today, approx. 40 million EU citizens are 50 years and older; in the year 2050, this number will have doubled. Ambient Intelligence is the name of the research area that includes the development of assistant living systems, which shall enable elderly people to continue living a self-determined life for a longer period of time.
Automotive

Providing failure safety in electrical and electronic automotive systems is the greatest challenge for automotive developers in this decade. The number of factory recalls has quadrupled during the past 10 years - and electronic systems were a major cause of this. The search for new ways in quality assurance for the automotive industry is one of the business areas of Fraunhofer IESE.
eGovernment

In German bureaucracy, the typical German thoroughness does not appeal to everyone. According to statistics, each citizen deals with public administration offices twice a year and is sometimes upset about fees and trips to such offices. The figures are much higher for German companies: On average, they deal with public administration offices 130 times, spending 46 billion euros on this. See for yourself how process-oriented e-Government helps to save time and money - for private customers as well as for industry.
Global Development

Hardly any other business is currently pushing globalization as much as the software and IT domain. They continue the trend towards moving product manufacturing and development abroad, preferably into cheap labor countries. The benefit is obvious - but what looked cheap at first glance, later turns out to be very expensive, due to a lack of process synchronization between the different countries. See for yourself how Fraunhofer IESE supports companies all over the world in obtaining the best possible benefit from global development, while protecting themselves from the risks at the same time.
Health Care and Medical Systems

Modern medicine reflects the technological progress like hardly any other domain. Software-controlled diagnosis and therapy devices with increasing performance support physicians, save lives, and increase the quality of life. These systems must work in an extremely accurate and safe manner. Faulty software can have fatal consequences. Fraunhofer IESE develops suitable procedures, techniques, and methods for manufacturers of medical devices to ensure the systematic development of embedded software.
Transportation Systems

The horror scenario of Eschede is dramatic evidence that technical systems can fail. Fatal accidents contribute to pushing manufacturers and suppliers towards making transportation systems safer all the time. Major contributions in this development come from electronics - and software. The performance of these systems continues to increase constantly, and safety aspects must keep pace. Software Engineering helps not only to obtain the highest levels of reliability and safety, but also to prove these.
Virtual Office of the Future

Romantic advertisements picturing great freedom in the office of the future make us wish for a flexibility that is miles away yet for German offices. Modern office equipment can do a lot, but it often requires intensive operation and hardly supports typical workflows on its own. Find out how office equipment becomes "smarter" and how modern software engineering approaches let the virtual office of the future become a reality.
