Allianz Lebensversicherung AG — Measurable Success with Inspections
In the context of a software improvement program commissioned by Allianz Lebensversicherungs-AG, modern inspection techniques were adapted and used successfully to increase quality. Systematic measurements performed by Fraunhofer IESE confirmed the success, both in terms of an increasing defect detection rate during early development phases and in terms of the overall reduction in project costs. The inspection method applied turned out to be easy to use and to be highly efficient: The savings exceeded the costs for the necessary inspection effort by orders of magnitude.
Thanks to the adaptation to the specific situation, the inspections could be applied systematically and efficiently. Different degrees of formalization enabled a flexible integration process that accommodates complex as well as simpler products.
Fraunhofer IESE analyzed the inspection process of Giesecke & Devrient GmbH on-site using stakeholder identification and stakeholder questioning, and eliciting the quality requirements on the individual project documents. Based on the results of this analysis, focused checklists were derived containing the “tightened” review criteria. By using this procedure, our institute was able to adapt the tools used for checking exactly to the company’s quality demands.
The improved review process and the focused checklists were presented and introduced in training sessions. During these events, the customer’s real code documents were used as sample and working materials.
